Counselling Theory and Practice: A Case Study Approach

Reading case notes, listening to therapists talking, and watching therapists at work are all ways of increasing one’s awareness of the therapeutic process as well as understanding the therapeutic relationship. These case studies, which are a distillation of fifty years’ experience as a therapist, have been adapted and expanded from my various books. Many people have said how much the case studies added to their awareness. Their comments inspired me to write this book, in the hope it will add to the body of knowledge already available to counsellors. Six principal approaches are used:

  1. Person-centred
  2. Psychodynamic
  3. Cognitive Behavioural
  4. Transactional Analysis
  5. Life of the Soul
  6. Therapeutic Imagery
  7. Goal-setting
